As the world grows in complexity, multiplying both its challenges and opportunities for innovation, so does the architecture profession. Positioned as mediators in a complex system, architects increasingly step out of the traditional office and into laboratories, town halls, and communities. They are developing new materials, reassessing urban policies, and responding directly to society's most pressing needs.
In recognition of this evolving role, ArchDaily's Next Practices Awards has, since 2020, spotlighted architectural professionals worldwide who are challenging the status quo to develop creative and highly responsive solutions to pressing issues of our time. To date, 85 teams from 32 countries have been highlighted, demonstrating a commitment to geographical diversity and the inclusion of regions often underrepresented in global architectural discourse. This 5th edition marks a significant evolution, shifting focus from what is new to what is next by celebrating practices that prioritize sustainability, longevity, and a deeper, more mindful engagement with the built environment.
On September 19, the 5th edition of the award will debut during the Copenhagen Architecture Biennale with the announcement of the 20 winning practices. The event will take place at the CAFx Headquarters, where the live announcement will be complemented by an exhibition showcasing the selected practices and their unique contexts.
Aligned with the Copenhagen Architecture Biennale's theme, ArchDaily will also host a panel discussion moderated by Editor-in-Chief Christele Harrouk. Featuring a mix of Danish and international architects from the awarded offices, the conversation will center on the question "How Are Next Practices Slowing Down?", investigating the ways in which the next generation of practitioners is embracing slowness as a productive form of resistance to foster more resilient, equitable, and sustainable outcomes.
This year's selection process was strengthened to bring new depth and transparency to the award. For the first time, an external jury was introduced to complement a rigorous internal evaluation led by ArchDaily's editors. Throughout the year, ArchDaily's international editorial network built a diverse longlist of standout practices. This list was then reviewed and voted on internally before being presented to the distinguished external jury, which consists of: Josephine Michau, Founder and Director of the Copenhagen Architecture Festival; Gabriela Carrillo, Founder of Taller Gabriela Carrillo and co-founder of Colectivo C733; Lucia Pedrana, Co-Director at the European Cultural Centre; Vinu Daniel, Founder of Wallmakers and winner of Next Practices' inaugural edition in 2020; Eloisa Ramos and Moreno Castellano, Founders of the African studio RamosCastellano Arquitectos.

The architectural community is invited to save the date of September 19, 2025, to witness the announcement and engage in this critical dialogue at the CAFx Headquarters in Copenhagen. Registration for the event is now open, and further program details will be released through ArchDaily's official channels.
